The charity match between FC Barcelona and Manchester City in August raised €4,362,872 for ALS research, the Catalan club confirmed on Friday.

Former Barça coach and goalkeeper Juan Carlos Unzue was diagnosed with the condition in 2020 and was behind the organisation of the fixture.

Unzue explained that 10% of the money will go to the Luzón Foundation, 40% (€1.5 million) to the European TRICALS platform made up of researchers, associations and charities working to promote clinical trials on ALS, and the remaining 50% (€2.3 million) will be given out as “Unzué-Luzón-Areces” research grants.
