Barça make progress on Cancelo's arrival on loan from Man City

Barcelona are already clear about their planning for the summer and will focus most of their investment on signings in midfield following the departure of Sergio Busquets. Xavi Hernández is also clear that a full-back must be brought in, but the objective here, in theory, will be less ambitious. The sporting department is now focusing its efforts on bringing in Joao Cancelo, on loan from Manchester City, although it is clear that this could be an operation that could be delayed until the end of the window. Cancelo's agent, Jorge Mendes, has committed to Barça to work on the loan operation but has also explained that Manchester City prioritise a sale, so they will try to place him on the market first. Cancelo is a player who arouses a lot of interest although the price that the English club would ask for, around 50 million euros, makes it difficult for him to leave. In addition, Cancelo wants to play in the Spanish league.

Madrid have also sounded out this option but he is not their number-one candidate at the moment. The club are looking for a top level full-back as Carvajal is showing signs of exhaustion. Los Blancos could opt for a transfer if they go for him but for now there has been no formal offer for the player.

Mendes is clear that time is Barça's best ally as Pep Guardiola does not want Cancelo in his squad. In January, City opted for Bayern's offer and now Barça could be left as the only option. Cancelo is also clear that he would have to reduce his salary in order to fit in at the Blaugrana and would be willing to do so.

Xavi's preferred choice for the position was Villarreal's Juan Foyth. At the moment, the Argentinian is out of the question but his arrival is not completely dead in the water. Negotiations could be reactivated, although Villarreal want a high amount of money.
