Barça make Messi's signing a priority over registering new contracts

| sport

The Catalan club are aware there is a time issue with the Messi signing

Barça have LaLiga's verbal approval of the viability plan they presented to the league. However, this position is insufficient from the club's point of view because, until they have it in writing, they will not be able to activate all the operations they have planned to for the summer to build a competitive squad for Xavi.

The initial idea, once the body chaired by Javier Tebas has approved the numbers, was to register the contracts of the five players whose renewals have not yet been updated. They are Gavi, Sergi Roberto, Ronald Araujo, Marcos Alonso and Alejandro Balde.

However, priorities have changed and Joan Laporta has given orders to place Lionel Messi's signing above all others. For a very simple reason: the signing of the forward is the most urgent operation that the Football Department has on the table because, if the process is not speeded up, the possibility of Messi returning home diminishes with each passing day.

The club wants to show the Argentine that what happened when he had to leave after LaLiga blocked his new contract in 2021 will not happen again. Moreover, the club are fully convinced that they can carry out all the movements they have planned and, in this sense, they consider that the new contracts are guaranteed once the viability plan has been approved, even if, due to a question of timing, the Messi issue has to be put before the rest.

Decision imminent

Messi, as SPORT explained, is close to making a decision and does not want to drag out his future plans too long. Barça's decision is, in fact, a kind of response to the haste requested by the No.10, an attempt to generate confidence in Leo, who is not willing to go through what happened again in 2021 and who has cooled somewhat his desire to return to the club of his life because, beyond wills, talks and informal proposals, he does not have any document that guarantees that there will be no legal problem to wear the Blaugrana again.

Barça tried to get LaLiga to offer them a written guarantee in order to unblock the signing of the World Cup winner, but Tebas has repeatedly refused to do so, so there is no other option but to wait and, in this situation, Barça prioritise Messi's arrival.
