Luis Suarez’s move to Atletico Madrid is official. After six seasons at Camp Nou, he heads to the Wanda Metropolitano. He will speak to the media on Thursday before heading to the Spanish capital.
"FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suarez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future," said Barcelona in a statement.
The player will earn 7.5 million euros a season, while Atletico will pay Barca up to six million euros in variables, depending on how Suarez does.
He had been planning on a Juventus move but it fell apart due to passport issues and instead set his sights on linking up with Diego Simeone.
Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu had doubts about Suarez going to a title contender but eventually let him go.
Suarez scored 198 goals for Barcelona in six seasons and won 13 trophies.
