The Swede is in form and a hot prospect for the future

Barcelona are following Alexander Isak closely. The club’s scouting department is interested in Real Sociedad’s Swedish striker with a centre forward one of the priorities for the next project.

Although the current board has no power to sign players a new president will be in place from early March. Isak’s performances have been tracked by Barca scouts since October 2020. The current sporting directors, led by Ramon Planes, have been combing the market to come up with names for whoever the next president is.

Isak, 21, scored 16 goals in his first year for La Real and this season has 12 in 20 games. He had a bad start to the season but has found form and bagged a hat-trick against Alaves.

Although the reports highlight his youth and La Liga experience, which will facilitate his adaptation to Camp Nou, Borussia Dortmund could complicate the issue. They sold Isak to Real Sociedad in 2019 but kept a 30m euro option to rebuy, which expires next summer.

Barca are also following Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, also 21 years old. He has four goals in 19 and his season is not going as well as expected.

The two star strikers in Europe right now are Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe but Barca’s finances mean they have to look a few rungs below.
