Barça hope to close first summer sale with Lenglet to Tottenham

Barcelona are starting to go against the clock with sales in an attempt to reduce the wage bill as quickly as possible. The sporting department has been working on many fronts, although it is admitted that the departures are somewhat stagnant. The first to materialise will be Clement Lenglet's transfer to Tottenham. An agreement is close and could be finalised next week.

Tottenham have already expressed their desire to keep the French centre-back and the player himself has agreed to leave Barça who, after the signing of Íñigo Martínez, have the position covered. Until now, the main problem has been the transfer fee, although everything indicates that the Blaugrana are going to give in because the overall operation is positive.

There is already a meeting scheduled for next week to unravel this transfer, which is likely to be low in terms of figures. Barça were asking for around 12 million euros for the Frenchman, but in the end it could be for half that amount. The key is that the Catalan club would save a very important wage, around 18 million euros per year.

Lenglet, who renewed his contract until 2026, deferring significant amounts of his salary, would now have one of the highest wages in the squad in the event of his return. That is why Barça are willing to sell him for a low figure because the future savings will be more than 30 million euros, a boost to reduce the wage bill.

Lenglet has played a very decent amount in his first year in the Premier League. Tottenham are satisfied with his professionalism and performances and will make an effort with a long-term contract so that the player loses very little money.
