RFEF legislation says the Catalan club still have tome to negotiate with Quique

On Monday, Quique Setien reiterated that he is suing Barcelona for breach of contract and said that the club have not offered him severance pay yet or even officially confirmed he's been fired.

However, sources have confirmed to SPORT that per the Royal Spanish Football Federation's legislation, the Catalan club have until June 30 2021 to reach an agreement with Setien.

Setien, meanwhile, is authorised to join any professional football club and coach during the 2020-21 season if he so wishes.

The key lies in Article 163 of the RFEF's rules on contracts. It makes it clear that that "the resolution of a contractual link with a coach, whatever the cause, will not impede a license being granted for the desired replacement."

Barça's problem is if they don't reach an agreement by June 30. In that case, the club would in theory not be allowed to register Ronald Koeman, or whoever the coach is, next season.

Koeman is currently on the bench, and allowed to be, despite the existence of an agreement between Barça and Setien.
