Barça consider offering Dembele short-term contract renewal

The Frenchman is out of contract in June and his future remains undecided

Ousmane Dembele's future is back on the horizon at Barcelona. Everything broke down in January but the reality is the player has continued, internally, to express his desire to remain at Camp Nou beyond the expiration of his contract in June.

Dembele has a good relationship with coach Xavi Hernandez and is grateful that he's brought him back into the fold following the threat that he could be left on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Barça have lead in their shoes on this subject even though they know of the player's immense talent. Therefore, they are contemplating offering him a short-term contract -- a maximum of two years -- so that his camp feel more comfortable.

However, Barça will demand that the player's agent takes a step forward before talks restart by removing his demands for a big signing on fee. That's impossible for Barça.

Barça removed their offer to Dembele in January. The club felt the agent had been leading them on during months of negotiations. There were tense days as Barça tried to find a buyer before the player ended up staying at Camp Nou.

Dembele's agent Moussa Sissoko even travelled to Barcelona to speak directly with Xavi, who has restored Ousmane to the team since because of his talent.

Meanwhile, Dembele has reiterated to Xavi his desire to stay. Barça believe the lack of offers -- or the amount on the table from other clubs being lower than hoped -- and the fact Dembele's seeing the Xavi project start to work could be reasons why.

Now Dembele must make his camp move and lower their demands to reach a reasonable agreement. If that happens, a miracle could yet happen.
