Xavi said he was happy with the midfielders he currently has available at Camp Nou

Xavi Hernandez has not stopped making important decisions since taking over as Barcelona's new coach. In fact, he started planning his structure long ago. His opinion will be important when it comes to signing and, in that sense, he has already been decisive in putting the brakes on operations that were in the pipeline.

One month ago, former technical secretary Ramon Planes re-activated the option to sign Donny van de Beek from Manchester United. The Dutch midfielder was previously targetted by the club when he played at Ajax. That was when talks first took place with his camp.

This time, Planes got in touch with the player to find out about his situation at United. Van de Beek has not had many minutes at Old Trafford and would be delighted to move to Camp Nou. However, from there, the option was translated to Xavi Hernandez, who rejected the chance to sign him assuring he doesn't need midfielders.

It was a clear message for the players Barça have in that position that he has faith in them. Both in terms of the veterans (Busquets), the established (Frenkie de Jong) and the youngsters like Pedri, Nico, Gavi and Riqui Puig.
