Barça coach Xavi gives update on Dani Alves' Camp Nou future

The 38-year-old is out of contract in the summer but Xavi would like him to renew

Xavi Hernandez is clear: if it's up to him, Dani Alves will remain at FC Barcelona for at least one more season after returning to the club in November.

Alves, 38, signed a deal until the end of the current campaign and Xavi was full of praise in a press conference on Saturday for what he has added so far.

"What Alves gives us is spectacular," he said. "He's an example, in terms of his professionalism and his positivity. I hope he has the performances between now and the end of the season to decide to stay for another year.

"I would love him to stay. But it depends on the club, on his performances. But he's giving us a lot and would continue to do so next year, even at his age."

Remember that Alves signed on a very low salary to be able to help the club. It remains to be seen if he can continue his good form and if the club can then agree to another deal for next year.

Alves' aim is to be part of the Brazil squad at the World Cup in Qatar later this year. Since his return, he has already contributed three assists and one goal.
