The defender is still injured and unlikely to feature for Uruguay in Qatar

The 2022 Qatar World Cup is just around the corner and the national team coaches are outlining the final calls to participate in the finals. One of the biggest doubts in the Uruguayan national team is the presence of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo who, despite being injured, entered the long list.

On September 28, Araujo was successfully operated on for an avulsion of the long adductor tendon of his right leg in Finland. Despite doubting whether he would undergo surgery or not, the center-back ended up agreeing, reducing his chances of going to the World Cup, but making the best decision in the long term.

This Saturday, at the press conference after the win against Almería, Barça coach Xavi Hernández explained that "we have talked with Araujo about him being able to travel, we have talked with [Uruguay manager] Diego Alonso and it could be good for him to go accompany the team hoping that he recovers as soon as possible."

The Blaugrana coach also pointed out that "if it's a psychological issue to be with the group, then he should go." The final decision will be made this week, the last before the club competitions stop for the World Cup. Barça's next game will be on Tuesday, November 8 in Pamplona, against Osasuna, starting at 9:30 p.m.
