The Dutchman celebrated his birthday with a stunning win at Anoeta

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman couldn't hide his satisfaction after his side thumped Real Sociedad 6-1 on his birthday on Sunday,

Barça are now unbeaten in 18 league games and are four points behind Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.

"It's an important win for us," he said. "The team is confident and strong phyiscally. The result doesn't mean anything for the future, any game will be complicated. We will have to be prepared.

"I am not convinced that we won't lose (another game). There are some really hard games. The best thing we can do is keep going as we have been and start games completely focused. And it will be important to be as clinical as we were today to win something."

On the title race, he added: "There's a long way to go. It's not going to be decided yet. Atletico are strong but against Alaves we've seen that all games tough ... not just for Atletico but also for us. And for Real Madrid, who are also there fighting. Going to be an exciting end to the season.

"At the start of the season, we had a lot of problems. We have changed a mountain of things. Any squad needs time to adapt to a new coach's idea and project. At the start, we weren't clinical and made defensive mistakes. Now we're much more comfortable on the pitch and it tells."

Best birthday present

It was a day of bithdays at Barcelona on Sunday, with Koeman turning 58, Jordi Alba 32 and Antoine Griezmann 30.

"Without doubt the (performance is the) best birthday present I could have received," the Dutch coach added.

"I'm also delighted for Griezmann and Alba, who are also celebrating birthdays and both played really well. Scoring six goals against Real Sociedad is incredible."
