Barça coach Koeman blasts VAR for not giving penalty against Sevilla

The Dutch coach can't believe a spot kick wasn't given but says it's time to look forward now

Ronald Koeman spoke to the press ahead of Saturday's La Liga game between Barcelona and Alaves at Camp Nou.

The Dutch coach was asked about the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg defeat to Sevilla, the penalty not given for a foul on Jordi Alba and Barça's decision to publish a video of the incident on social media.

"It wasn't my decision to publish the video on Twitter," Koeman said. "But for me it's a penalty. The referee said it was a foul but outside the box. And everyone saw that it was inside.

"I don't understand why VAR doesn't step in. It's not that complicated for me, but that's it now. Mistakes can be made, no problem, we have to look forward."

Despite the 2-0 loss, Koeman was happy with the performance in Seville: "The result against Sevilla is there to see but we played well. If we play that game again, we don't lose it. This team was capable of dominating Sevilla in many areas, but you have to have some luck as well."

On Sergiño Dest, Martin Braithwaite and Miralem Pjanic, Koeman added: "They have trained today and tomorrow we'll make a decision. There's still a risk with the other injured players. If it was the last game of the season we'd take more risks, but I am not in favour of it at the moment."

And on the possibility of Ronald Araujo having pain killoing injections to face Paris Saint-Germain next week, he didn't rule it out.

"Araujo is injured," he said. "If there's a moment when he can come back, we will speak between ourselves and with the medical team and we will decide.

"But it's always important to know the risk involved with each player. We've still not decided (for PSG). Tomorrow no and we will see on Monday or Tuesday."
