Ernesto Valverde spoke about Carles Aleña's situation at the club in the preview to Tuesday's game against Real Valladolid at Camp Nou in La Liga.
Aleña started the first match of the season against Athletic Club at San Mames but was withdrawn at half time and hasn't featured since.
Barcelona coach Valverde admitted that the academy graduate is "not as playing as much as I would have thought" and added that he "deserves" more minutes because "he gives everything in training."
Valverde added: "His attitude is really good, but there's a lot of competition in the midfield positions. He started the season playing, but since then he's not (played). He will keep working hard to get in the team."
