The club will make the Uruguayan their fourth choice centre-back

Barcelona have decided that Ronald Araujo will be the first team's fourth-choice central defender next season, despite the fact he could also continue with the B team.

The Uruguayan defender is the sporting department's bet for the role and the club will even begin the process to obtain Spanish citizenship in August, once he's completed three years in the country.

The fact he's currently a non-EU player is a problem when it comes to promoting him to the first team, as only three non-EU players are allowed.

If Barça sign Lautaro Martinez and Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo don't leave, the three positions will already be filled.

Araujo has been alternating between the first team and the B team since Ernesto Valverde was coach and has already made his La Liga debut.

The club backed him as the fourth centre-back in January when they allowed Jean Clair Todibo to go out on loan and the idea is to sell the Frenchman in the summer and keep Araujo.
