Sergi Palencia is a clear example of type the players at Barcelona B that it pains you to see having to play in Segunda Division B next year. But with the first team being a bridge too far for most, coupled with the B side's relegation, it means there's a huge gulf between the two teams.
The chance to go out on loan would be a good option for the Barça B captain and he won't be short of offers. In Gijon there's talk about him being an option to reinforce their right back situation following the loss of Alberto Lora. With Jordi Calavera also returning to Eibar after a loan spell with Gijon, the team needs someone who can slot in without any fuss.
But as is the case with other footballers, Palencia has a chance to take part in preseason training with the first team and convince Ernesto Valverde he could offer a solution to Barcelona's own right back issues. Sergi Roberto is naturally a central midfielder but is filling in at right back whereas Nelson Semedo was irregular in his first season at the club.
As such the decision lies with Valverde and it could be further into the summer before a decision is made on Palencia.
