Barça are preparing to offer Pedri a new contract
Pedri has exploded onto the scene in a way that not even his biggest fans could have possibly imagined. When Barça signed the player from UD Las Palmas just 18 months ago, in what was the club's smartest bit of business in recent years, they had no idea that he would become this good, this quickly. His progression has far exceeded anyone's expectations, and the club is now looking to reward his efforts by offering him a new and improved contract.
Barça are aware that his current contract does not reflect his market value or his importance to the first team squad. Put simply, he is a star. He still has room to improve, of course, but nobody has any doubts when they see his name on the team sheet. In fact, he is widely considered to be one of the three most influential players in the first team squad. Particularly since the departure of Leo Messi.
SECURING HIS FUTURE
The main objective of Barça's technical secretariat is to tie him down to a new long-term deal. His first contract with for the club was for two years (of which he has already completed one), which can be extended by a further two years. Barcelona are hoping to tie him down to a new and improved contract until 2026 at the end of the current campaign, which will include a higher release clause and a considerable salary increase.
Sources close to Pedri suggest that he would be delighted to extend his stay at Camp Nou. Until the end of the transfer window, Barça's sporting directors will remain focused on arranging moves for various members of the first team squad.
