Barca are not giving up on Ousmane Dembele
The French forward has not signed a new deal yet with little over a year left to run
Barcelona are not giving up on Ousmane Dembele. His future is one of the big preoccupations of the club, with his contract up in the summer of 2022. For now he has not made any movements towards signing a new deal. Barca have put a price on him for clubs to sign him this summer if he does not want to sign on for more years.
However the club’s intention is, and has always been, to renew his contract. Dembele has shown good form this season and largely avoided injury. It has helped him become more consistent.
The idea Barca’s executives have is to keep negotiating and reach a new deal before next season. They think there is room to convince Dembele that his best option is to stay. If there’s no deal this summer, club and player will decide together what the best option is. Barca don’t want to lose the forward for free, even though they are conscious of their own economic limitations at this juncture.
If they can renew his deal then they will. If not, then they will try and find an exit for him so they can make some of his 150 million euro fee back.
