Barça are interested in 17-year-old Brazil sensation Joao Pedro

The youngster is one of the most impressive players in the Brazilian league but actually belongs to English side Watford

Joao Pedro Junqueira de Jesus, more commonly know as Joao Pedro, is one of the hottest prospects in Brazilian football right now. His goalscoring record in his native country has caught the attention of of anyone - including FC Barcelona's Pep Segura.

Many believe he's destined to become the next superstar from the country. When he's competing with Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo for that future star tag, it says how well he's performing.

Joao Pedro has scored 9 goals in his first 15 professional matches. Barcelona have been monitoring his progress since he came through the youth ranks at Fluminense.

The youngster was actually sold to English side Watford at the end of 2018. They paid €2.5m, plus €7.5m in variables, for his services and this was before he'd even kicked a ball for the first team. Barça believe they could convince Watford to sell amidst growing interest from Manchester United and Liverpool in recent weeks.

The young forward is trying not to be distracted by the speculation surround his future. His last two performances have been world class and he topped that off by scoring a wonderful overhead kick against Cruzeiro.

Last Sunday, in the Fla-Flu 'classic', he didn't get on the scoresheet but left his mark on the game as he stood out from the crowd.

'JP' will turn 18 at the end of September and as such any move to Europe will have to wait until the next winter transfer window. He would be an option for the long term but, due to how the market is nowdays, you have to invest in the future before players become known to everyone else in Europe.

The player himself is someone Segura is very keen on bringing to Barça. All the reports on 'JP' have been positive and, according to SPORT sources, Barça have already spoken to the player about breaking his agreement with Watford to join up at the Camp Nou.

A deal for Joao Pedro would need to be confirmed this summer even if he wouldn't join up with Barça until 2021 at the earliest.
