The Rennes midfielder has been impressing with his performances in Ligue 1

The transfer market never stops. Despite the summer window closing, clubs still continue to look to the future and work on January deals or are planning for next season already. For Barcelona, the focus is on a deep midfielder as they look to life after Sergio Busquets. Martin Zubimendi is the top target, but there are others.

Per 'Footmercato', Barça are interested in Rennes midfielder Lovro Majer, too. The Croatian, nicknamed the the new Modric, has been one of the standout players for the French side since joining from Dinamo Zagreb. Various clubs (Real Madrid and Atletico, for example) have shown an interest in him. According to French reports, Barça are among them.

However, a deal would appear complicated -- and expensive. Rennes signed him for €12m from Croatia and would not listen to offers below €60m.

At 24, the Croatian midfielder is ready to take the next step in his career, though. Barça feel strengthening with a defensive midfielder is key with Busquets' contract expiring. It is one of their objectives in the coming months, but it remains to be seen if Majer could be the player they turn to.
