Now the two clubs have agreed on the transfer fee, the young defender has been given permission to speak with Barça
Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf' have confirmed in their Sunday edition that Sergiño Dest has played his final few minutes as an Ajax man. The youngster came off the bench against Vitesse in what looks set to now be his farewell.
Barça and Ajax have agreed terms on the transfer fee and now all that's left is for Dest to meet with the Catalan giants over his contract demands. The full back could arrive as soon as Sunday afternoon or Monday morning to finalise the details and become a new member of Ronald Koeman's squad.
The 19-year-old Dest started on the bench against Vitesse and was only brought on at the end. He said goodbye to his teammates following the game but his departure isn't unexpected.
This means that Barça have moved ahead of Bayern Munich with Dest's desire to play for Barça the key behind that change.
The fee for Dest is said to be around €20m with more made up in variables. Ajax and Barça's close relationship was another important factor to reaching a positive conclusion, especially when it came to how and when the payments for Dest would be made.
PERSONAL TERMS TO BE AGREED
Ajax have given Dest permission to begin negotiations with Barça ahead of his likely move to the Camp Nou. Koeman was adamant that his squad wasn't finalised in his pre-match press conference and Dest becomes the first piece of the puzzle he's trying to create. Once that deal is done, all focus should turn to signing a new striker.
