Barcelona and Nike officially launched the Catalan club's new home shirt for the 2019-20 season on Monday. As revealed by SPORT in September, the design features checkered squares.

For the second time in the club's history, Barça have binned their traditional vertical stripes. This time they have been replaced by Blaugrana squares.

The shirt is not inspired by other shirts (like Croatia's, for example), but by the city of Barcelona, with the Spanish champions explaining the design is based on the neighbourhood of Eixample.

Eixample is a central district in the Catalan capital which is in blocks, like New York, and features many of Gaudi's famous architecture.

Barça's kit launch didn't just feature the men's team, but all of the club's sections as well as number of other local people, including Diana Ballart (publicist), Berta Vicente (photographer), Carlota Claver (chef), Albert Barqué (investigator and artist), Marie-Eve Beaulieu & Laura Souek (Hospital Vall d'Hebrón), David Andrés (chef), Xavi Ros-Oton (mathmatician), Amaia Arrazola (illustrator), Samxsen  (musical group), Wekafore (designer) y Candela Capitán (choreographer).

They all represent the emerging talent in Barcelona, a shop window to the world.
