Balde's Barça renewal discussed at Laporta and Mendes' Porto summit

The defender is out of contract in 2024 but Barcelona hope to agree new terms

Many names came up at the summit meeting between Joan Laporta, Mateu Alemany and Jorge Mendes in Porto. There are a large number of shared interests between FC Barcelona and the Portuguese agent. One of the most important, because of what he means in the present but above all because of the extraordinary potential he has, is Alejandro Balde. The left-back, under contract until 2024, is having a great season and the club wants to tie him down to ensure the continuity of a very important part of Xavi Hernandez's project.

In Tuesday's meeting, Barça and Mendes began to unblock Balde's renewal. The issue had not come to a standstill, but it had become more complicated than expected (especially on the part of the club). The player's exponential growth has elevated him to a new dimension and, of course, his agent is asking for his progression to be considered. In the offices at Spotify Camp Nou, work will soon be done to find an economic formula that is satisfactory for the youngster and, at the same time, fits in with the new salary scale of the squad.

Barça, for the moment, remain optimistic and hope to reach an agreement with Balde. The will of the full-back, who has made it clear publicly that he only thinks about succeeding with Barçat, invites calm. The good relationship with Jorge Mendes, his agent, also. Now, however, the most difficult part is still to come: to reach an agreement that pleases all parties.

This season, Balde has already played 2,117 minutes across 32 matches. He has yet to score a goal, but he has provided five assists.
