The Chelsea defender will sign for free when his contract expires

All paths are leading to Camp Nou for Cesar Azpilicueta. The Chelsea defender is out of contract on June 30 and is likely to be one of the summer signings made by Barcelona.

Azpilicueta, 32, has had an agreement in principle with Barça to join the club later this year for free when his terms expire in London.

Chelsea only have an option to extend his contract with the club. There is no clause that allows them to do so unilaterally, as has been reported.

Azpilicueta would arrive at Barça at a key juncture in his career. Captain of Chelsea, a European champion and a full international with Spain, his versatility -- he can play across the defence -- and experience make him an interesting option for Xavi's side.

He may not be the only free agent arriving this summer, either, with Barça also working on a deal for Andreas Christensen, his Chelsea teammate.

The Danish centre-back is out of contract in the summer and Barça want to improve the middle of their backline.
