The France forward returned to Atletico from Barcelona on a chaotic deadline day

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo told Cadena SER that Antoine Griezmann was "crazy" about returning to Atletico Madrid after re-joining the club on deadline day.

Griezmann left Barcelona for Atletico on loan on Tuesday, with the Madrid club paying €10 million for the loan with the option to make the deal permanent for €40m.

"We've been lucky to get Griezmann for the next two years," Cerezo said. "We weren't counting on him (for this season), but we didn't know Saul was going to leave (for Chelsea), eithr. Finally it all went through."

Griezmann joins an Atletico attack that already features Luis Suárez, Joao Félix, Correa and Carrasco, among others.

Griezmann left Atletico controversially two years ago, joining Barça for €120m, with the Rojiblancos fans feeling mistreated by the Frenchman.

"He left in a strange way but he's down that he was crazy to come back to Atletico," Cerezo said. "There are fans that won't like it, but there are others that were delighted he came back.

"In the end, what's important is performances and having the best squad possible. He's come in a brilliant deal for us and that shows how much he wanted to play here."
