The imminent departures of Nelson Semedo and Luis Suarez will finally allow Barcelona to make a number of signings. With a move for right-back Sergiño Dest on track, the club will also try and sign centre-back Eric Garcia.
The Manchester City defender is one of Barça's top targets. He is out of contract next summer so shouldn't cost very much. However, Barça are also looking at other options in the event they can't sign him this year.
One of the names on the table is the Athletic Club defender Unai Nuñez. At 23, the Spain international has asked to leave the club on loan. In exchange, he would be prepared to renew his contract, something that's not come to fruition despite talks in recent months.
His contract expires in June 2023 and his release clause is 30 million euros. In the case that Barça can't sign Garcia, the idea is to sign Nuñez on loan, an option that would fit with his plans.
For now, Athletic consider Nuñez a key player and for that reason have rejected offers for him. His desire is to have a more important role on the pitch.
