The president didn't want to lose the young forward and hopes he will sign a new deal

As the weeks pass, Barcelona fans look to the future for positive news, which is not in abundance at the moment.

One thing to hold on to is that it seems that talks to renew Ansu Fati's contract with the club are on track, with his current deal up in 2022.

However, according to Diario ARA, during the summer his future at Camp Nou was not so certain, never mind a new contract.

The cited media report that Barça's finance department was putting pressure on president Joan Laporta internally to sell Ansu to be able to register Lionel Messi.

Barça's financial crisis meant they had to look at possible solutions, as traumatic as they may have been, to be able to retain the best player in the world.

However, Laporta stood strong in his decision to not sell Ansi, as the president himself explained in a recent interview with TV3.

ARA also explain that the Messi camp had also brought up the possibility of selling youngsters to improve the financial situation and renew Messi, who ended up signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

Always according to the same report, Laporta withstood the pressure and is now close to renewing Ansu's deal with the club.

Ansu's knee is improving and he's back in full training after 10 months out, with Barça hopeful the forward will be back in action in the coming weeks.
