Per the report, Freixa owes around 100,000 euros to his workers, who have been informed that they will not be paid

Toni Freixa took nine percent of the votes to be the next Barcelona president in March's election, missing out to Joan Laporta and coming behind the other candidate, Victor Font, too. Now, according to Diari ARA, it's been revealed that he's not paid some of his campaign workers.

Per the report, Freixa owes around 100,000 euros to his workers, who have been informed that they will not be paid. The majority of them belong to the campaign's communication department, although there are also debts with people involved in the logistics of the campaign and gathering the signatures for the candidacy.

In November 2020, Freixa created a company called Candidatura Toni Freixa 2021 to take care of all the payments needed to fund the campaign.

However, alarm bells started sounding halfway through the campaign, even before the candidates had been whittled down to just three.

Workers were warned that there was no money in the account and that they couldn't be paid at that moment, postponing payments until after the election. According to ARA, those payments were never made.

Some companies are claiming money that's owed to them by sending burofaxes to Freixa's home address.

Asked by SPORT, Freixa affirmed that "it's lies, I don't owe money to anyone."
