Antoine Griezmann key to forcing Atletico transfer
The French forward had to take an important role in the operation
If anyone has put the work in on a solution to the 'Caso Griezmann', it's Antoine Griezmann himself.
The player accepted Atletico's decision that he should only play for 30 minute periods this season without complaint. He never kicked off about it and said 'it is what it is' when he was asked.
Eventually he tired of it, and the French coach Didier Deschamps said he needed more minutes to get in form ahead of the World Cup.
So Griezmann asked Atletico to find a soltution. For that he counted on the complicity of Diego Simeone, who wanted to start Griezmann anyway.
With Barcelona and Atletico relations strained, it was the player and his people who helped force a solution.
The player's will has always been to stay at Atletico and he will do his part - accepting less money than Barcelona paid from Atletico during the loan and he will also lower his salary to stay.
