Ansu Fati's dilemma: What do I do?

The young forward could risk himself to help the team against Bayern Munich

Less than a week before the decisive game in Munich, Ansu Fati has not trained with his team-mates. The No 10, normally at this point, does not seem like he will arrive in time for the game, which has Barcelona’s Champions League future. Barcelona need to win or at least match Benfica’s result against the eliminated Dynamo Kiev.

Ansu is recovering from his hamstring injury. If he plays then there is a risk of a relapse, and yet Ansu may be willing to do so. He’s looking for opinions from those close to him. “What do I do?” asked Ansu, weighing up the benefits and risks.

One of the options the club is looking at is for the player to travel to Munich to stick with the team and bond with his colleagues, and depending on the circumstances, take one decision or another. Similar to Dest and Dembele against Benfica. They were not 100 per cent but were needed late on.

Xavi considers Ansu vital for his project. For the coach he would be the best ‘signing’ to take on Bayern and he made that clear. “His recovery is going very well, he has good sensations, he’s started to run,” said Xavi. “We have to go carefully and we’ll see if we take a risk or not.”
