Ansu Fati and Pedri, two magicians who are out of sync

| sport

The Spaniards have barely played together over two season

Ansu Fati and Pedri are set to be key parts of Barcelona’s team post-Messi. The team needs new leaders and idols, and these duo have shown they are capable.

The winger and midfielder are set for big presents and futures in Xavi Hernandez’s side and the coach has no doubt about them.

These two ‘magicians’ in theory would be a great combination but football is capricious and they have not been fit at the same time this season or last. Injuries have meant they have coincided in just 13 games together and in six of them they have played at different times.

In the first five games of the 2020-21 season one came on when the other went off. Ansu started four games and Pedri one. Pedri won his place in the team but Ansu Fati got injured in November.

He was out until this season and even then, hasn’t been able to play much, and Pedri has been out a lot too.

They only coincide in the 3-0 defeat in Lisbon, with Pedri coming on at the moment Ansu was taken off.

In the Spanish Super Cup they played 54 minutes together and then 35m against Athletic in the Copa del Rey.

Ansu is now in the final stretch of his recovery, but Pedri is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring issue. They have played a total of 346 minutes together in two years. Let’s see about next season.
