The Man City midfielder is wanted by Barcelona for next season
Ilkay Gündogan's agent, his uncle Ihan, met this Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper with Barcelona's director of football, Mateu Alemany, as captured exclusively by the cameras of 'El Chiringuito'.
The summit comes just two days after the good performance by the midfielder in Manchester City's victory against Bayern (3-0) in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League -- a performance that reactivated the interest of the Catalan club.
Barça's sporting management is working to reinforce, among other positions, the midfield, especially if Sergio Busquets decides not to renew his contract. And Gündogan is one of the players that both the coaching staff and the technical secretariat like the most.
Gündogan could fit into the 'financial fair play' if he adjusts his economic demands, as he would arrive as a free agent with his City contract expiring in June. He also has a renewal proposal on the table from the Premier League side, but the economic conditions are not to his liking. Agreeing a salary could also be an obstacle to overcome for Barça.
It is not the first time that Alemany has met with Ihan Gündogan, with whom he has a very good relationship. On Feb. 16, the Turkish midfielder's uncle and agent was already at the Blaugrana offices talking with Alemany, Jordi Cruyff, Joan Laporta's presidential advisor Enric Masip and the director of football management, Franc Carbó.
Alemany made it clear at the time that the meeting had not been to discuss the possible signing of Gündogan, but to convey Barça's satisfaction with the good performance of Andreas Christensen, who is also represented by Ihan.
Barça are not the only club keeping an eye on the City midfielder's contract situation. The current Premier League leaders, Arsenal, also have him on their agenda in case he decides not to renew his contract with Manchester City.
