The French club have threatened to report Barça to FIFA over Rabiot interest

Real Madrid, whose president is Florentino Perez, released two statements within 15 days denying any interest in signing Neymar or Kylian Mbappe. It could have been seen as a nice gesture, even a sign of respect between Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but it might be naive to think that.

PSG aren't any old club and don't take meddling lightly. Barcelona are aware of that and, beyond the episode with Marco Verratti, have always been respectful in their dealings with the French club. However, that doesn't seem to be enough for the Ligue 1 champions and their Qatari owners. Barça have found that out this summer after trying to sign the midfielder Adrien Rabiot. PSG didn't appreciate Baça's interest and moved to let them know.

OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION

The French side have warned Barça through an official statement that they could report them to FIFA for 'tapping up' Rabiot. PSG say Barça spoke with the player's agents, something which is only allowed when a player is into the final six months of their contract. For PSG, Barça's approach was illegal. Despite the threat, though, that have not yet carried through with it. Barça were outraged and perplexed to receive the note.

BARCELONA'S TAKE

Barça have pointed out that Pep Segura and Eric Abidal traveled to Paris at the start of July to inform the French club of their interest in Rabiot. The visit shows Barça's desire to do things the right way at all times and not to upset those running PSG.

Despite that, in Paris they feel it wasn't enough and believe that the player already has an agreement to move to Camp Nou next summer, something they can't confirm. PSG base that on the fact Rabiot has turned down four new contract offers. Barça, meanwhile, feel that PSG's attempt to sign Rakitic, despite being contacted by the Ligue 1 side, represents a similar story.
