Another disappointing afternoon for Ousmane Dembele at Getafe

| sport

The French winger was injured there back in 2017 and did not get to play this weekend

On his 25th birthday, Ousmane Dembele could not pull the thorn out of his side that he suffered in Getafe. The Frenchman was left on the bench after 14 appearances in a row for the 0-0 draw.

Dembele was a substitute in the Coliseum, behind Ferran Torres, Aubameyang and Memphis, who started in attack.

He warmed up with Ansu Fati in the final stages but unlike the youngster, did not make it on.

Xavi made three changes across three windows, so even though he was stretching and warming up, Dembele could not enter the fray. He was smiling with Alvaro Sanz but put on a serious face as he walked past Xavi on the way back.

After the game Xavi was asked about Dembele not featuring.

“I decided to play with Ferran for what I saw during the week, how the opponent plays. Dembele had come from a great effort.”

Dembele has bad memories of Getafe and the Coliseum. It was there in 2017 where he suffered his first injury at Barcelona, out for three and a half months with a hamstring problem.

Since then he has played there but not scored or assisted. And now he’s had his first benching with no minutes since February 6, against Atletico at Camp Nou.
