An open letter to Dembélé: "Kick your friends out of your house"

Former Espanyol player, Jacinto Elá, has come to Ousmane Dembele's defence but also has some advice for the youngster

Ousmane Dembélé left the pitch in tears against Borussia Dortmund after yet another chapter in his injury hell was written. It's the ninth injury the forward has suffered since arriving at Barça. Yet a former Espanyol man, Jacinto Ela, has written an open letter to the sad winger.

"Forget about recovering as soon as possible. Play when you're ready," Ela said. "Disconnect from social media for a while."

"Why do you need them if all of your friends live with you? That's another thing: I don't know why you live with so many friends. Is there nobody else who sees that this is not good, or do you not care? Kicking them out of your house doesn't mean kicking them out of your life. I understand that you need to be supported, but you should start thinking like an adult. It isn't easy at your age, I get that, but you need to be a bit boring to show your best," Ela added.

It's been the story of Dembele's time at Barça. Whenever he's looked set to kick on and live up to that expensive price tag, his body has broken down. "At 22 years of age, your injury list stands out. What's worrying is those injuries are tough on you physically. But emotionally, it's going to creep into your confidence too. Any slight discomfort is going to set off an alarm. Without meaning to, you become a hypochondriac."

And finally, Ela recommended Dembele change some of his habits in order to change his fortunes. "Follow all the advice the professionals at the club give you. The medical staff, the physios and the dieticians should be your new bosses. If you need to sleep at 8PM, do it. If they tell you to become a began, eat tofu every hour of the day. If they have to start yoga, do it."
