The Morocco midfielder wanted to sign for Barcelona and not the London side

Little by little more details of the final hours of Barcelona's January transfer market are becoming known, with midfielder Sofyan Ambrabat as the main protagonist.

The Moroccan international, as explained by Italian media, rejected a proposal from Chelsea on the last day of the market -- prioritising his incorporation at Barca. Ambrabat had decided that his ideal future would be to play for Barça and tried to provoke an agreement between the Blaugrana and Fiorentina that did not happen.

January 31 was a busy day for Amrabat and his entourage as Chelsea stormed in with a transfer proposal to take him from Fiorentina. The English club made the move when negotiations for Enzo Fernandez broke down. It could have been a move to put pressure on Benfica, but the reality is that the London club never had a chance because Amrabat had given his word to Barça and did not want to go to the Premier League. Hours later, Chelsea closed the multimillion signing of Enzo Fernandez.

Amrabat always bet on the Blaugrana since learning of their interest. The footballer is still clear about this preference and his entourage has told Barça in the hope that there is a door open so that the operation can be resumed in the summer. Barça admit that he is a player they like, but that the valuation set by the Italian club is very high, although nothing is ruled out.

The Moroccan international has a contract with Fiorentina until 2024, but the Italian club kept a unilateral option to renew it for one more season, which complicates things a lot. During this market they declared him untransferable even though they would have accepted a transfer of 40 million euros, something Chelsea were willing to pay.
