The midfielder had not played since the opening day defeat in Bilbao

Carles Aleña returned to a football pitch for the first time in 114 days as Barcelona beat Mallorca 5-2 at Camp Nou in the league on Saturday.

Aleña had not played an official game since August for Barça but he was given another chance against Mallorca, coming on for Ivan Rakitic in the 70th minute.

The game was already over when he came on, with Barça 4-2 up, but he was able to get involved as Lionel Messi completed his hat-trick late on.

Aleña had started the first game of the season at Athletic Bilbao but he was taken off at half-time at San Mames with the scoreline goalless. Barça went on to lose 1-0.

However, he had not appeared in an official match since then and had appeared to have completely lost the confidence of his coach, Ernesto Valverde.

He has been linked with a January move to Getafe. The Madrid-based club have confirmed that they've approached Barça about signing him on loan.
