The player’s contract could not be registered with La Liga

FC Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany spoke to DAZN in the build-up to the Getafe-Barça La Liga game and spoke about Gavi's future and the chances of him leaving the club next summer.

The Barça executive also responded to reports that the midfielder has been linked with Chelsea in recent days.

"Gavi renewed at the time for four seasons, he is serving his first season and he has three more seasons with us and he is going to serve them for sure. What's more, we are convinced not only that he is going to keep his contract, but also because of what he thinks, what our fans want and what we want, that he is going to finish his career at Barcelona."

In the same vein, he concluded that "for us there is absolute peace of mind, the player has renewed, we are going to register him for sure, and for our part there is no problem."

In recent days it has been insisted that Chelsea have been tempting Gavi to make the jump to the Premier League next season. However, the player's entourage have been calm in this respect, assuring that his desire is to continue at Barça, convinced that the bureaucratic problems preventing him from updating his contract will soon be solved.

Xavi Hernandez also expressed his confidence that Gavi will remain at his side next season in the press conference prior to Sunday's clash against Getafe.
