Ajax would demand €55m from Barça to sell Donny van de Beek this summer

The midfielder is someone Koeman likes a lot but his high price tag makes a potential deal very complicated

It's no secret that Barça want to rebuild their entire squad this summer and Ronald Koeman will have a key say in how they do that. The priority at this moment is signing a new first-choice striker but the club are also after another midfielder. Someone Koeman likes a lot is Ajax's Donny van de Beek but his asking price is going to be a problem. The Dutch club don't want to let any more of their star players leave and would demand at least €55m to let van de Beek go.

This isn't the first time Barça have made a move for Van de Beek. Ramon Planes had the midfielder on his list of options last summer but because the club failed to move anyone on, adding an extra body was impossible.

Ajax and Barça have a good working relationship but it appears any move for van de Beek won't happen until September at the earliest. Barça have other options on the table should a transfer not materialise.

For now, Barça are going to focus on more important areas of their squad. Pjanic will be added to their midfield next season and Barça want to sign a new striker, a young defender and a left-back. After that, it's possible they will make another move for van de Beek.
