FC Barcelona have reasons to be optimistic regarding the future of Frenkie de Jong. A few weeks ago Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars said they would not negotiate the Dutch midfielder's exit this summer, but now there are signs a deal could be possible. Barça believe an increased offer could now tempt Ajax.
Contact between De Jong and Overmars is constant. The sporting director has finally opened the door to conversations and, according to the Dutch media, Ajax expect representatives from Barcelona to arrive in Amsterdam next week for talks.
50 MILLION EUROS
Barça believe a deal could be possible for around 50 million euros. However, the player will also need to put pressure on for the transfer to go through, without damaging the excellent relationship the Catalan club have with Ajax.
Pep Segura and former sporting director Robert Fernandez opened talks months ago. Now, Eric Abidal and Ramon Planes have taken up the negotiations. Everyone at Camp Nou is in agreement that De Jong is a player with huge amounts of talent.
The only doubts are that the 21-year-old has so far only proven himself in the Dutch league, where there is less competition. However, they belived he's a mature player along with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Co. and that his integration would not be a problem.
Add to everything the fact that the player is desperate to move to Barcelona -- albeit without any sort of problems arising with Ajax or between the two clubs.
Ajax have just completed the signing of Daley Blind. After his adventure in the Premier League, he returns to the Eredivisie club, which would ease the pressure on them in midfield if they are to lose to De Jong.
