Agreement reached for renewal of Collado's contract with FC Barcelona until 2024

The Blaugrana club and the player from Sabadell have agreed on a one-year extension of his current contract

Álex Collado will renew his contract with FC Barcelona until June 30, 2024. The Spanish club and the player from Sabadell have reached an agreement to extend the contract between them for a year. The agreement has not yet been signed, but the official announcement should not be too far now. By doing so, the club ensures the continued services of one of the most promising young players that La Masia has produced in recent years. This season he will have the opportunity to demonstrate his quality at the Camp Nou.

Collado took advantage of his half-year loan at Granada to regain his self-confidence, and the player from Valles was reportedly very happy at the Nuevo Los Cármenes. Despite the delicate sporting situation at Nazarí, which resulted in a tough relegation to the second division, he showed his potential in the 17 games he played in the red and white shirt, only missing two matches. The three coaches he has had since January -Robert Moreno, Rubén Torrecilla and Aitor Karanka- showed faith in him and gave him the continuity he needed.

After the experience in Andalusia, Xavi told him that he was counting on him for the 2022/23 season. Although the continuity of Ousmane Dembélé and the signing of Raphinha will close the doors on the winger positions, Collado will not be left without any game time. Xavi does not think of him as a forward, but as a midfielder. His profile fits with what the coach requires for his scheme for the midfield and, although he will have to compete for the position with players like Pedri, Gavi, Kessie, Sergi Roberto and, if he stays, Frenkie de Jong, the young forward will have opportunities throughout the season.

Although negotiations to renew the contract that was expiring in 2023 was at a very early stage, in recent hours the talks have accelerated and a deal closed. All that remains now is the signing. The agreement between Collado's representatives and Barça is complete and, at the very least, the striker will have a first-team record with the Catalan club until the end of the 2023/24 season.
