The departure of Xavi Simons from FC Barcelona has had an immediate impact on current events at the club. Unlike other youngsters who have left, the concern isn't about losing someone who could have had a future in the first team. Instead, it's the breakdown in relationship with the player's entourage.
Everything changed on the day SPORT captured Mino Raiola at the Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper. This was the 3rd September and the super agent was bringing Xavi Simons in his van. From that day, the club knew Simons was going to be more trouble than he was worth. Raiola is known for getting his client's transfers away and his plan was to do the same with Simons - and that's exactly what happened.
The saga with young Simons hasn't been the only 'meeting' between Raiola and Barça this summer. He is, of course, the agent of Matthijs de Ligt too. The Dutch centre back chose the proposal from Juventus ahead of Barça. Part of the reason Raiola was upset with the offer on the table was how little money he was going to be paid. This was in stark contrast to what Juve were willing to pay him.
Barça now know that the less they see of Raiola the better.
