After returning to Ajax, what is going on with Matthijs de Ligt?

De Ligt cerró la temporada con un gran gol de cabeza / | sport.es

The Dutch defender was a surprise arrival at Ajax yesterday because he's already reached an agreement to join Juventus

Matthijs de Ligt is back training with Ajax this week. Despite reaching an agreement with Juventus on personal terms, the Italian side has failed to match his current club's asking price. Mino Raiola said the only thing holding up an announcement was the two sides agreeing on a fee. But with Juventus so far trying to lowball the Dutch giants, de Ligt will continue his preseason preparations in Holland.

Ajax rejected Juventus' opening offer of €50m. The reason behind this low offer is because Juve say they've already discounted the commission owed to Raiola which is around €11m. Even then, it's still some short of their €75m valuation.

Until a deal is struck, de Ligt can't move anywhere. The Dutch defender is looking forward to earning around €10m per season in Turin, something Barça couldn't come close to matching.

BARÇA STILL HAVE AN AGREEMENT WITH AJAX

The current situation is the complete opposite to what happened with Barça. Ajax and the Catalan club reached an agreement almost immediately over a €75m deal. It's worth noting that for Ajax, as was the case with Frenkie de Jong, they'd prefer de Ligt join FC Barcelona.

Now it's a question of who will back down to accelerate proceedings. Juventus, Ajax or de Ligt? There's even a chance de Ligt could end up at Barça alongside his best friend de Jong.
