The winger set up a goal for Munir in the final and banged twice against Arsenal

Eight years ago, a new competition began for the most promising kids in Europe: The UEFA Youth League. And Barcelona won it. In that team there was a skilful winger; one who has just returned to Barca. Adama Traore.

That season, 2013-14, was one of the most magical Adama lived in the youth teams, which he was in for 11 years after joining in 2004.

At 17, he was a key piece in Jordi Vinyals team that won the competition. Despite their victory, few of the team went on to make the elite. Some ended up without a team, like Ondoa the keeper, or forwards El Ouriachi, Maxi Rolon and Ebwelle.

Others went to the Barca B team, like Jose Aurelio Suarez, Palencia, Riera, Tarin, Quintilla or Kaptoum. Only Munir El Haddadi, and Adama, went on to play in the first team squad.

Munir played 56 games for Barcelona, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists.

Adama, already playing for Barca B, played in the Youth League from the quarter-finals onwards. He scored a double against Arsenal to help Barca reach the final four.

Munir’s strike against Schalke set up the final against Benfica. Adama, in the attack with Munir and El Ouriachi, helped the team win the trophy. He set up Munir for the second goal in a 2-0 win with a burst down the right and cut-back for the forward.

That tournament saw various participants go on to become world stars. Goncalo Guedes played in the final with Benfica, while Andre Silva featured for Porto and Serge Gnabry for Arsenal. Leroy Sane scored for Schalke, Kingsley Coman for PSG, Zinchenko with Shakhtar and Nathan Ake at Chelsea. There were various other names who also played: Hector Bellerin with Arsenal, Mario Hermoso and Marcos Llorente with Real Madrid, and Lucas Hernandez at Atletico.
