AC Milan won't move for Depay or Jovic in January window

The Italian champions had been linked with a move for a forward next month

Lyon's Memphis Depay is not a transfer target for AC Milan in January despite being strongly linked with a move to the Italian club. The Serie A leaders are also not interested in Real Madrid's Luka Jovic.

According to the journalist Gianluca di Marzio, coach Stefano Piolo wants to sign a centre-back when the transfer window opens, not a forward. Di Marzio says neither Depay nor Jovic's names are on the table at the moment.

Milan have been strongly linked with a move for a striker as a long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede, at 39, remains in great form but suffered an injury recently.

That's where Depay and Jovic came in, as well as Girona striker Gianluca Scamacca. But Milan are not interest in signing a forward mid-season and will instead focus their efforts on a centre-back.

Barça, therefore, lose a rival for Depay's signature, while Madrid lose a suitor for Jovic.

Di Marzio reports that Strasbourg defender Mohamed Smakan, 20, is one of Milan's top targets to strengthen their defence, along with Ozan Kabak (Schalke 04) and Matteo Lovato (Hellas Verona).
