They are ahead of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid domestically

A study has found Barcelona to be the best Spanish team of the 21st century across all competitions, even though Real Madrid have outperformed them in the Champions League.

The study was conducted by CIHEFE, the centre of investigation for history and Spanish football statistics.

Between 2000-2020, Barcelona win out, per Jose del Olmo's study.

The Champions League, La Liga, European Super Cup, Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup were all looked at.

Barcelona lead the way with 3,465 points, ahead of Real Madrid on 3,347 and Atletico Madrid on 2,149, who are third despite playing in the second division at some points.

They are followed by Valencia (2.139), Sevilla (1.992), Villarreal (1.648), Athletic Club (1.405), Deportivo de La Coruña (1.395), Celta (1.164), Espanyol (1.144), Betis (1.137), Real Sociedad (1.108), Málaga (1.035), Getafe (1.028) and Mallorca (1.009), the 15 clubs who have over 1,000 points.

Olmo highlighted Villarreal as one with a great trajectory, having earned a place in La Liga after coming up from the second division and thriving.

In La Liga the top three are Barca, Madrid, Valencia, and in the Copa del Rey, Barca, Sevilla, Madrid.

In the UCL it's Madrid, Barca and Atletico.
