The English side are looking at replacements for the Brazilian

Arsenal star Alexis could leave the club in January

If the talks between Liverpool and Barcelona don't hit any setbacks, Philippe Coutinho will become the Catalan side's newest player in the coming days.

The midfielder's absence from the Red's win at Burnley, coupled with the club spending 85 million euros on Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, suggest his move to Barça is advanced.

But Liverpool need to make another statement to show their intentions to their supporters. To do that, they will need a top level replacement for Coutinho.

In this sense, in his comment in The Independent, John Aldridge says the club should make a bid for Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez.

The former Barça player is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer, although his aim is to reunited with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

City were close to signing Alexis in the summer but a deal broke down at the end of the window. They promised the Chilean forward that they would be back, though.

Alexis wants to leave Arsenal and that could play into Liverpool's hands, who would face competition from City and Paris Saint-Germain if they got involved.

The operation would cost around 45 million euros in January, given there's only six months left on Alexis' terms.
