17 games unbeaten in La Liga: Barcelona are Europe's in form team

| sport

Ronald Koeman's side have been on a great run since losing to Cadiz in December

It was complicated, some considered it impossible, Ronald Koeman himself recognised that the chances of winning the title were slim... but Barcelona are in the hunt for La Liga. Barça have cut the gap on Atletico Madrid to four points and the pessimism of earlier in the season has transformed into optimism. Barça, who can never afford to have a transition year, go into the final stretch of the season still alive in La Liga. And they do so thanks to an unbeaten run of 17 games in the league.

Barça haven't lost in La Liga since Dec. 5. On that day, they were beaten by Cadiz but sine then their form has been impressive: 14 wins and just three draws. No losses. They have only slipped up, curiously, at Camp Nou, against Eibar, Valencia and, once again, Cadiz. That's 45 points out of a possible 51. In that time they have scored 41 goals and conceded 12. In 2021, the percentage of wins is above 90 percent. These numbers have allowed Barça to cut the gap down by nine points in 10 games to get closer to Atletico.

There's no team in Europe's top five leagues on a longer unbeaten run. A special mention for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, who lose the derby to Manchester United on March 7 as a 21-game winning run in all competitions came to an end. Inter (11 games unbeaten), Lille (also 11), Chelsea (10) and Leipzig (seven) are the other clubs on the continent going through a good moment, but none are close to Barça's run just yet.
