Barcelona have sent Real Betis a calming message regarding the future of Emerson Royal, the Brazilian right-back on loan at the Seville-based side.
While it's been speculated that Barcelona could recall Emerson from a two-year loan this summer -- which would come at a financial cost -- that does not seem to be the case.
Remember that Barcelona agreed to loan Emerson to Betis until 2021 and if they bring him back earlier than that they would have to pay a penalty fee as well as a percentage of any future sale.
According to the Diario de Sevilla, Barcelona have told Betis that they are not going to recall him early and, for that reason, he will remain where he is next season. The Catalan club feel that's best for his development.
In the same report, it's pointed out that Barça already have a number of non-EU players -- Arthur, Arturo Vidal and Ronald Araujo -- in the squad, before even considering the possible arrival of Lautaro Martinez, so it would be tough to make space for Emerson, too.
Things would only change if Barça receive an offer they deem too good to turn down, which would prompt them to pay the 'fine' to recall him early. Emerson has had a number of offers, above all from Germany.
