Barça put brakes on Cucurella exit due to Digne's future

The young left-back could find himself as Jordi Alba's understudy this season

Like every summer, there's a lot of work to be done in the offices at FC Barcelona: incomings, outgoings, promotions, loans...

One case open this summer is Lucas Digne -- and the club hope to close it soon. As SPORT revealed, the France left-back asked for the club to listen to offers. He feels his lack of minutes at Camp Nou was behind his omission from the Les Bleus' World Cup squad.

Despite now playing regularly at Barça, he has a good reputation still and there's interest. Another issue is if the interested parties will pay what the La Liga champions want.

If he does leave, Barça have already decided who his replacement will be: Marc Cucurella, the full-back who has come through the club's academy.

Following the B team's relegation to the third tier of Spanish football last season, several players -- such as Cucurella, Palencia, Arnaiz and Galarreta -- decided they needed to leave.

However, the club have asked Cucurella's people to not accept any offers as they count on him to fill in for Digne, which would see Miranda become the first choice left-back for the B team.

OFFERS FROM LA LIGA & THE BUNDESLIGA

Cucurella has always been highly rated at La Masia. His performances for Spain's youth teams and in the Uefa Youth League have led to plenty of interest.

Barça renewed last year to increase his release clause but there have been approached this summer from several clubs in La Liga as well as German side Borussia Monchegladbach.
